Notes: The Charlotte Knights open their sophomore season at BB&T Ballpark against the Norfolk Tides. … Last season, the Knights watched 687,715 fans walk through their gates over the course of 71 home games – the most in all of Minor League Baseball. … Tonight’s starter for Charlotte, Brad Penny, is a veteran of 14 Major League seasons. He signed with the White Sox as a free agent back in December. The righthander owns a career record of 121-101 with a 4.29 ERA in 349 big league appearances. … Jeff Shaefer, who is the only player to have won championships with both the Charlotte O’s and Knights, will throw out tonight’s first pitch. … The Knights played in two exhibition/scrimmage games at BB&T earlier this week and won both, defeating their parent club, the Chicago White Sox 10-2 last Friday and the Davidson Wildcats 2-0 (in 6 ½ innings) on Monday. … The Knights went 11-10 against the Tides in 2014 and 8-3 against them at BB&T. … Tides’ starter, Tyler Wilson, is ranked by Baseball America as the Baltimore Orioles No. 12 prospect. He went 4-3 with a 3.60 ERA in 12 starts with Norfolk in 2014.
