Head to head: This is the sixth series between Charlotte (61-54)
and Gwinnett (61-52) this season, but the first time the two International
League South foes will play a four-game series. The Knights have taken three of
the five series and hold an 8-5 edge in games played overall this season, but
the Braves won all three games in their last series, July 24-26 in
Lawrenceville, Ga.
Notes: Charlotte and Gwinnett are both in the hunt for the
league’s wildcard berth. Entering Sunday’s league games, the Braves are
currently second in the IL South, four games behind Norfolk, while the Knights
are third, five games back. That puts Gwinnett 1½ games behind Columbus in the
wild-card race, with Charlotte 2½ games back. … Knights outfielder Matt
Tuiasosopo has had one of the hottest bats in the International League over the
past five weeks. His 12 home runs is the most in the league since July 1, and his
31 RBIs are second-best. … Charlotte infielder Drew Garcia moved into eighth
place on the Knights’ all-time games played list Sunday, making his 283rd
appearance to pass Josh Fields. He is just nine games behind Josh Phegley,
currently seventh with 292 games played. … Charlotte manager Joel Skinner is
just three wins away from 275 career victories with the Knights.
