White Sox No. 5 prospect Micah Johnson promoted to Charlotte Knights

Chicago White Sox prospect Micah Johnson, who was leading the Southern League in hitting at .329, was promoted to the Charlotte Knights from Double-A Birmingham on Tuesday.

Johnson, 23, who is ranked as the No. 5 prospect in Chicago’s system by Baseball America prior to the season, had appeared in 37 games at second base for Birmingham (AA) this season. Johnson has scored 18, hit nine doubles, one triple and three home runs. He has 16 RBIs and 10 stolen bases.

In 2013 Johnson excelled while playing his way through three levels of the White Sox system. He posted a combined .312 average with 24 doubles, 15 triples, seven home runs, 58 RBIs, 84 stolen bases, and 106 runs scored over 131 games between Kannapolis, Winston-Salem, and Birmingham.

The 84 steals were the most by any minor leaguer, while his 106 runs scored ranked fifth overall. For his efforts, he was named to the South Atlantic League midseason and postseason All-Star teams and was tabbed by Baseball America as the Best Baserunner in the SAL.

Joining Johnson in Charlotte is LHP Nevin Fuentes, who was also promoted from Birmingham. Fuentes was 0-0 with one save and a 0.00 ERA in his last 16 innings in Double-A. Fuentes was signed by the White Sox as a free agent on December 1, 2013. He was originally selected by the Minnesota Twins in the 16th round of the 2007 draft.

Mr. Lasko --

Is the club not concerned with how horribly Tyler Saladino has hit -- that is, not hit at all -- for nearly the past month. He was off to a torrid start, too.

Micah Johnson's arrival and Saladino's resultant move to left field don't seem exactly designed to get Saladino out of his funk, unless it's by inducing outright panic.

Is he playing through some heretofore undisclosed injury? If so could you trytofore disclose it, please.

I'll be eyeballing this space daily just like I like to do. Thanks for all your great coverage, Mr. Lasko!

P.S. And how about that velocity loss from Erik Johnson. Any news on that front? I have every confidence, if there indeed is any news on that front, that you Mr. Seth Lasko will write it up right here where I like to read it. See what you can do, would you?

Good luck!
